SM Mall in Cagayan de Oro City

Very Christmassy! It is good to spend Christmas in the Philippines especially when family is around, isn't it? While some of my family went to do the grocery, the kids were spending their time in the game room. Me? I took the time in taking pictures of the busy activities in the mall.
Here are few of the pictures which I took in SM Cagayan. On holidays, the mall provided a nightly show for those who patronize their mall, their way of thanking the shoppers. It is a good entertainment since the hosts were having trivias and give-aways were given randomly to those who participate the show.
This is the Christmas Village which can be found on the first floor. It was truly beautiful and colorful.
This is the caption in some areas going to the theatres.
Kids area and on the right, I took the picture of the stairway.
Here is another attraction inside which the kids loves to ride.
Here is another area located near the entrance from the mall parking lot.
Sorry it is blurrry! We made a banking transaction inside.
Kids wonderland on the first floor. You can also find different food chains and fine dining on this level. You will never get hungry!
MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE! Thanks for stopping by. Give something for this holiday! After all, Christmas is a time for gift-giving!

Justice for Visconde Family

June 30, 1991, a gruesome crime happened in BF Homes Paranaque City, Philippines. Three lives were murdered inside their home. A home which is supposed to be a safe place for Visconde Family. 19 years ago, three victims were stabbed to death in multiple times Estrellita- 13 times, Carmela- 17 times and the 7 year old suffered the most with 19 times. The father was out of the country when the crime took place. Since then, the famiy is seeking justice.

Prominent personalities were arrested. It was one of the most sensationalized cases in the country because the accused belong to the influential families in the Philippines. They were convicted in the lower court but, the twist of fate came out on December 14, 2010 when the Philippine Supreme Court acquitted all the convicted personalities for LACK OF EVIDENCE.

Filipinos have different opinions and expressed their biases using TWITTER and FACEBOOK posts. It may not eased the pain of Lauro Visconde but, there are people out there who pray for him. There are people out there who support his fight for justice! I hope there is Justice in the Judicial System in the country.

Share Your Blessings

Have you seen people with no clothes to wear? Have you visited someone's place who doesn't own descent things? Well, I did! That is why, every December, it is a sort of tradition in the house to get rid of the things which we don't need. I took the effort of having a general cleaning in the house and give away things. I would rather give away those things than hide it in the closet or in the cabinet. It is a good feeling to give. If you don't need it, give it away. If you don't use it in a year, why keep it? It is time to clean and clear your closet and share! Do it before the year is over!

Seablings and Cagayan de Oro City

First week of my stay in the Philippines, I wanted to visit all the cemeteries. I arrived during All Saints/Souls Day and it was a big celebration in my country. At night time, we decided to have a good nice dinner at the beach. We went to Opol, Misamis Oriental, Philippines and sure enough, I had a good dinner with my mom and two of my friends. We love the ambiance, we admire the friendly employees and the food is worth the price. It was a bit expensive but, since it is delicious, we really don't care at that moment. All we need is to satisfy our cravings for kinilaw and Filipino calamare tastes.
Seablings is a newly open Seafoods Restaurant and by that, I would mean three years ago, it was still under construction. The picture above is their entrance. My friends and I have an instant positive feedback after we tasted their food. If you happen to be in Mindanao, and heading to Iligan, visit Seablings along the highway of Opol. You should try their yummy food.Anyway, I was living abroad for almost three years and this is my first comeback to the Philippines. This is the view of my place and we live in the uptown overlooking the view of the bay of Cagayan de Oro city. Thanks for stopping by.

Jackfruit

I just found out that Jackfruit is the national fruit in Bangladesh. In the Philippines, this fruit is native and is always found in the backyard. My mother planted three Jackfruit trees in our backyard. But, since we dont have enough space, she cut the other two.
This tree is what I called the Giving Tree. It provides shade and of course, fruits which the whole neighborhood would enjoy feasting because some fruit would grow as big as 80lbs.

The fruit looks like this and it is very sweet and juicy plus, the smell is really great. Most of the parts of a Jackfruit is very useful for other purposes also. Aside from the fruit, the leaves can be used as wrapper because it has a distinctive natural flavor in it.

The seeds are not wasted also because it can be boiled or baked just like beans. The bark of Jackfruit tree is also used for wood production such as home furnitures. The fruit on the other hand can be eaten even when it is unripe. It is a good substitution to meat curries.

Trying to Find a Vampire Costume

Guest post by Terrell House:

My oldest daughter wants to be a vampire this year due to the popularity of the Twilight series. The problem was deciding how she would dress since the vampires in the books don't really look like the traditional vampires with the black cape lined in red satin. They just look like normal people without special outfits. After setting our home security Alarm systems we headed out the door to shop. Since there was no specific clothing we were looking for we decided the best way to depict the kind of vampire she wanted to be was with yellow contact lenses, white face make-up and gothic clothing. She also thought adding some interesting sharp teeth might help it seem more like a costume than just weird. We bought the teeth at Halloween Express. We had a harder time finding the contact lenses without a prescription and had to order them online. We found a black button up shirt with a collar and some lacey trim at the thrift store. We also found a pair of flouncy black dress pants that completed the look. She also found some long necklaces with black and silver charms to complete the look. Her plan was to starch the collar on the shirt so that it would stand up for a more dramatic look. She wore black button up boots to match.

Designed to Sell

Contribution by Paula Gonzales:

Designed to Sell is real estate based reality television show hosted by Clive Pearse, Shane Tallant, Michael Johnson, and Rachel Reenstra on HGTV (Home & Garden TV). It is a must see for real estate tv fans. I never miss a show on satellite tv from ExpertSatellite.com. The show runs a half hour each episode and involves home renovation prior to being sold. Considering the premise and the slump the housing market has been in since the shows inception in 2004, it's amazing how long the shows been running.

The great thing about it though is that it gives you expert advice, redesign advice, professional carpenters all on a mere $2,000. Can I say that anyone looking to sell a fixer upper should definitely try to actually get on the show because they are always able to bump up the sales price by way way more than two grand. The big selling point of the show is that they do this within 3-7 days and before the house is to be shown all while staying under budget, adding an element of stress and tension. Another selling point is that every project requires some kind of over the top demolition derby, and demolishing things is never boring. It's especially comical to watch the homeowners reaction considering they know that the repair is to cost no more than $2000.

The Haunted Mansion

It is Halloween Season and I will show you some pictures that I took in the Haunted Mansion, a spoky ride tour that I love! I only came here once because of curiosity! There were many tourist who wanted to explore the mansion and hey, if you are afraid, DON'T BE! You can get out of this mansion ALIVE with Smiling face!

Of the hot attractions in Disney World is the Haunted Mansion which is located in Magic Kingdom Theme Park. The inside is full of tricky decor and amazing ghost creation! It is sort of like the movie "Casper" where you would love the set-up inside the mansion.

You will see mist formation of a ghost on a dining area or passing by you. It was an awesome adventure ride. I enjoyed it and definitely not scared. This scary mansion is wholesome and kids would love it to out grow their fear of scary places!

When you see this at the entrace, make sure you watch closely, or you will disappear in the face of the earth!LOL! Nah! Just observe the eyes!
The carriage outside the mansion!
The long lines made you want to go to the next building and EAT! Yeah! Just visit this place and you will surely enjoy it!

Halloween Means Pumpkins

Guest post written by Rick Hamby.

Every year as soon as it turns into October, my wife gets pumpkins on the brain. But I can't really complain because that means that she cooks all kinds of different delicious pumpkin things and shares them with me.

Every year she looks up a whole bunch of new recipes so that she can try out some new things. This year wasn't any different and while she was looking up stuff to make about a week ago she found clearwirelessinternetservice.com and talked to me about switching over our internet service to it. We decided to do it because I think it will end up saving us some money in the end.

Well after all of that, she found some great pumpkin fritters recipe and made them teh other day for Sunday brunch. I thought they were a really great idea. And they tasted even better! Next Sunday IÕm going to try and make her some pumpkin pancakes. IÕm not sure how theyÕll end up tasting, but I hope that sheÕll like them.

Boomtown Casino in Biloxi

When I first saw this place, I had a good feeling because the design of the building is like Asian. This is the smallest casino in Biloxi and during hurricane Katrina, this casino was badly damage. I worked here for 10 months and I made good friends to some of the employees in this casino. I quit my job to pursue my masters degree and hopefully will be able to start my kindergarten school in Florida.
Working in this casino taught me humility and patience. Most of the people asked me if I love my job and my answer is just a SMILE.

Anyway, let me tell you that Boomtown is a good casino to visit IF you want TO WIN! Oh yeah! Locals love this casino because they always go home with winnings. The biggest tip that I got from the customer is a chip worth $25 and the smallest is $1, 'twas fun! I took these pictures after my job processing. Wheww! Days fly swifly! Did you know that this casino stays crowded most of the time especially weekends?
The second floor is where the buffet area. I have a heavy heart just thinking how I work so hard, almost fainting (too much work)!
This is the main entrance where employees in uniform were deprived to use, this is for customers only. Employees have different entrance.

If you happen to pass by Biloxi, Mississippi, check out Boomtown Casino.

San Francisco Visit

My visit to San Francisco was actually a bonus when I fly to Los Angeles. My employer granted my request to have a 10 days day off with pay. It was worthwhile. We have two days and one night stay in San Francisco. It was not enough for me but, having traveled this far is what I was thankful for.

The picture above was taken near Lombard Street. The cable car is one of the best transportation in San Francisco to see the view of the place.

I love San Francisco and one of the beautiful places that I visited. My first train ride is right here in San Francisco too. San Francisco is the fourth most populous city in California. The parking space here is truly bad. That is why, my friend took a subway train and park his car miles away from San Francisco. We were supposed to go to Alcatraz but, we run out of time. I will definitely go back and explore the place.

Popeye Tattoo

When I went to Los Angeles-California, my friends decided that we will go to San Francisco. I was so thrilled because we will be having a road trip. We leave LA at 10 AM and made few stops along the road and I enjoyed it a lot. I took some pictures which I will be sharing it here soon. Anyway, while we arrived in San Francisco, my friend Rose meet her friend named Doug. I saw a tattoo on his arm and he allowed me to take pictures for my blogging purposes. Isn't it cool? Well, I don't have any tattoo and don't have plans to have one.

I just find this amazing because Doug is a huge man and choosing this cartoon character is unlikely even though Popeye signify strength.

Tailgating at Tampa Bay Buccaneers Games

Guest written by our friend Gladys Fuentes.

One of my very favorite fall activities is tailgating at Tampa Bay Buccaneers Games! I love it because of the camaraderie, ritual, and, of course, food! The morning of the games, we pack up our SUV with all of our goodies, set the new house alarm thanks to great Adt deals, and are off to the game! We set up camp in the parking lot of the stadium. We always bring chairs, tables, plates, plastic utensils, napkins, and of course, food and beverages. Usually, we cook our side dishes at home the night before the game, and grill our main courses at the game. Our must have food items to bring are: potato salad, deviled eggs, potato chips, macaroni salad, condiments, hot dogs, hamburgers, pulled pork, buns and baked beans. We always bring a radio so that we have music and the pregame show to listen to. One other item we love to bring is games! Our favorites are the corn hole toss, a football, and a soccer ball. These are wonderful items for keeping the kids occupied while waiting for the game to start. Tailgating at football games has been a tradition in my family for years, and I hope that my children carry on the tradition some day.

Weather in Orlando

We were supposed to go to Walmart today but the weather outside was bad. We decided to go to Golden Corral instead to have a buffet lunch since we are lazy to cook today. I remember my first few months living in Orlando (three years ago). I was so scared when it rains and hundreds of lightning strike. The weather changes every 5 minutes. It might be exaggerated but, true. If it has a storm warning, it is really bad. After an hour, the sky would look so blue and no traces of bad weather at all. If it is summer here, it is over a hundred degree and you will just endure the excruciating humidity. But hey, this is Florida. The beautiful Sunshine State and I love it here.

Driving Through Town in my New Mustang

Guest post written by Thad Newsome

One of my favorite things to do this time of year is take my car out for a spin with the windows down, just driving around the back roads of my town. I used to do this all the time when I just needed a moment to clear my head.

Now that I’m retired, I decided to splurge on a gift for myself—a new Mustang convertible. Now I’ve been able to go out for several relaxing drives, top down, enjoying the wind on my face and the sounds of nature. There’s really nothing better.

Well, somewhere down the line, I realized that my hearing isn’t quite what it used to be—especially when I’m driving around. At first I thought it had something to do with the whipping wind from the convertible top being down, but then I started noticing it even when I wasn’t driving. I decided to go to a nearby Miracle Ear location to see if they could figure out what was wrong. Turns out, my hearing had been on the decline for a while and I really needed hearing aids. I got them right there on the spot and, let me tell you—my drives have increased tenfold ever since!

Soft Bake by Pepperidge Farm

I am not a cookie monster and I can live a day without a cookie snack. There is an exception to that though! If there is a Pepperidge product in the house, I will be an eating machine and will only quit when it's all devoured! LOL! Sounds an exageration? It's your call but, I truly love this product.
I was curious why I love Pepperidge and what's in the taste that pass my simple taste? My curiousity led me to visit the Website and I read " A PASSION FOR BAKING: Everything we bake has a heart and soul, and you can taste it." Oh well, need I explain more to you? Go get one yourself and you can tell. Enjoy your Pepperidge Cookie!

Food in IKEA

One of the home stores in Orlando that we miss while we live in Mississippi is IKEA the Mall of Millenia. We love this place because it is very convenient for us to find the things that we need in the house. I love the furniture designs and the food in this Swedish Store. This store opened in November 14, 2007, basically turning three years this year. Why this store is convenient? All the surrounding vicinity is all I need to spend a funfilled day of shopping and enjoy a good meal. Hubby loves to shop so early in the day to avoid the rush and the huge crowd of shoppers. We always take advantage of their affordable breakfast and they have oh-so-yummy food on display. Check out my plate here, it's salmon fillet with vegies. I am not a vegie lover but, I clean my plate here. The flavor is so good especially this mushy vegie with broccoli in it.

Visit the food section in IKEA and when you are full, shop all you need for your home improvements. They have special event this coming December 10, 2010. IKEA will be serving dinner buffet for limited seats from 6 PM for less than $10. How cool is that? I will see you there!
