D'Iberville Mississippi #MardiGras

Here's another set of old photos that I found for those who were asking to post Mardi Gras photos in Mississippi. Anyway, today in #NewOrleans is crazy! They party hard so; if you love fun and party hard, today is the best time to visit the French Quarter in New Orleans. Like any other tourist spots though, you should be very careful at all time. Do not wander the streets after dark, park your car in secured parking space, do not leave any valuable things inside the car and do not drink 'til you drop because believe me, dangers are just lurking around. Okay, as what I am saying, if you love crazy party, visit the #FrenchQuarter and eat beignets at Cafe' Du Monde while waiting for the Mardi Gras parade. 98% around you are friendly as if you are all friends for life LOL. Have fun but be cautious, or else you'll go home without your wallet.

It is probably an hour drive from #DIberville to French Quarter but, on this visit to Mississippi, we are on a rush of time. We were in Mississippi for 5 days and stayed in two hotels, the Beau Rivage Casino and Resort, and the Isle which is now called Golden Nugget Casino Hotel. I love watching the Mardi Gras parades in Biloxi, Ocean Springs, Pass Christian and D'Iberville in Mississippi. These photos were taken in D'Iberville, Mississippi. A cousin owns the "lighthouse" building (background house) and the people that's in the picture are my family too.

One of the biggest Mardi Gras parades in Mississippi is in D'Iberville. Floats are beautiful and well decorated. Most Krewes gave out nice and collectible beads. If you have children, you will get lucky for sure. They love to throw nice beads to children and handicapped individuals.

Krewes throw beads, bracelets, moon pies, toys, candies, teddy bears, flowers, sexy undies  LOL, plastic mugs and cups, duobloons and more.

When Krewes throw beads on our direction, we need to catch it for good luck. A lot of beads fell to the ground and most people don't bother to pick them. Some of us did though LOL especially if the beads are rare and collectibles.

Actually, I was not lucky on this day. I collected few beads but, there was a couple who gave me a bag of their beads. In Mardi Gras parades, everyone is friendly! See the father with the kid beside me? They got all the beads. The Krewes didn't see me at all hahaha.

Oh those beads hanging are nice! The lady in action (stripes) hahaha. Screaming, "Gimme some beads ... here..." There are times, the Krewes gave the nice beads to their friends and family.

Since I am not getting anything, I told hubby to take a picture of me with these gorgeous high school band. Dang! I was caught off-guard, this woman pushed me on the side! arghhh ...

Mardi Gras Beads and Philippine Flag

Beads from Mardi Gras and a Philippine flag, accessories that we have in the car. Every time people look at me were trying to analyze my nationality but, when I caught themstaring at the flag, I presumed they knew instantly.

There are people who would ask me (politely) whether I am a Mexican, Thailander , Chinese or Vietnamese. I just don't know why LOL. The flag is enough to let them know where I came from.

Interesting Parades

Back home, in my elementary years, I remember that we had a nice parades in the city. Most kids love to catch some freebies and candies ..... well, I remember those days that I followed the floats begging for freebies. But, as the years passed and new city officials govern the city, it seems that parades are not as exciting as before. But, when I saw the pictures of the two consecutive city fiestas, I was amazed that parades came back to life. Floats are spectacular!When I arrived in Mississippi, Mardi Gras Parades are big thing! It's like being a child once again. The fun part... everyone is begging for beads and freebies. Mardi Gras Parades are fun to watch! A reason that hubby and I keep on coming back to Mississippi. Here is the "atmosphere" of the streets before the parade starts.I took this picture at the deck of the building owned by a cousin in D'Iberville, Mississippi. Most of the streets in this city are closed. I catch some beads for friends back home. I would do it over and over again.

Mardi Gras in D'Iberville

One of the best Mardi Gras parade in Mississippi is in D'Iberville. Participants have nice themed floats, thousands of beads to throw and thousands of people flocked to watch the parade. Our cousin owned a business located on this road so, our family decided to meet there. My husband and I drove down an hour earlier but, there were road blocks already. We parked half a mile away and we had to walk to this location to be with our family. We enjoyed the parade. The beads that I got this year are less than what I have the other year. It is unfortunate for me to stay in a location with so many kids LOL. The Krewes prioritized the children first then, they neglected the others and that includes me, LOL. Here are some of my favorite beads. All the beads that I have will be donated to the friends of my mother back home. Oh they love the beads!

Throw Some Beads

"Give me some beads", parade goers would scream that to the krewe. It was such a fun and exciting activity during the Mardi Gras, catching the beads. I got lots of it and ready to ship to my friends back home. The last time, I gave it to a school and parishoners of my mother's church.My sis-in-law gave this beads and I this is my favorite. Do you wanna see the beads that I got? I will post them later.

Well-Decorated House for Mardi Gras

We were in Mississippi for Mardi Gras parade and spent at the ISLE of Biloxi Hotel for 3 nights. We had a blast! Before we drove to the Mardi Gras parade in DIberville, I decided to see my friend who works in Boomtown Casino then, along the way,we saw this well-decorated house, full of Mardi Gras spirit huh?

I thought it's nice to acknowledge the owner for the effort. It was very attractive and lively!If you can't travel to New Orleans, you can set your house into a French Quarter look. This house is located along Porter Street in Biloxi Mississippi. Enjoy the Mardi Gras everyone! Happy Fat Tuesday!

The Clown

Do you like clowns? During the Mardi Gras parade in Mississippi, they are always part of the parade and they gave out candies and make toy ballons. I am not really a fan of the clown but, I don't hate them.

Mardi Gras Parade is FUN

Yesterday was the last day of Mardi Gras parade in Mississippi particularly in Biloxi. Usually, our favorite location to catch the beads in this city is in front of Hardrock Hotel and Casino. The street in this area is very spacious and the city will detour the motorists main road during the parade. I will definitely miss the fun, the crowd and all the happy faces. It's like, when you see everybody, they are all your friends and everybody will smile back at you.

The lil girl on the float is my niece, she was invited to throw beads. The more beads on the float, the merrier because the people who watch the parade is eager to catch the fanciest, the unique beads. For them, it is like a trophy! These pictures were taken last year in Ocean Springs, Mississippi. It was so cold and everybody was covered with a throw blanket. I swear, it was so cold that your nose would start to numb! If you won't join the fun of catching beads, you will be frozen LOL :-) , (joke)!

For two consecutive years, we went to every parade in nearby cities. The biggest mardi gras parade that I love was the mardi gras in D'Iberville in Mississippi. This place has the longest, most decorated floats, and plenty of participants. People came from different direction of the area.

Mardi Gras is indeed different from the parades that we had back home. When you watch Mardi Gras parades, you will participate all through out because you have to catch the beads, moon pies and teddy bears. Remembered my first time, was too shy to wave my hand and get the attention of those on the float :-) When I looked around, I was the only one, sat on my folding chair and everybody else were jumping and tagging the beautiful beads.

I am telling you, it was no fun when you just pick up the beads laying on the streets! When you catch it though, the FUN begins and you want to catch more!

Mardi Gras Beads

I love Mardi Gras Season! Hubby and I are planning to visit Mississippi and watch all the Mardi Gras Parades in Biloxi, D'Iberville and Ocean Springs. Since New Orleans is just nearby, we plan to go there too but, our plans take a detour when the gas price went up!
It would be too expensive to go there considering the price of gas plus the hotel stay. It would be ridiculous to spend so much money just to catch the beads, right? So, we rather save our money for a cruise to Bahamas than, spend it on gas. Guess, that would be a wise idea for now!

Mardi Gras Scenes

Last Saturday, we went to Elk Mardi Gras Parade in Ocean Springs Mississippi. It was freezing cold. I wore 3 jackets and a blanket but still I am so cold. I am with my husband, family, aunt and cousins. I wanted to send pictures to FB but, my hands were so cold so, I decided to just use my digital camera.

Mardi Gras In Biloxi

Here I am wearing all the beads I got. I should have brought a container bag coz most of the people there had one or two. I am already choking and it is heavy. Too bad I can't get the whole pictures of the float. This Mardi Gras today is more crowded than last Sunday in D'Iberville.

Mardi Gras in D'Iberville: The Parade In Action

The beads started to pile up on my neck....LOL! Well, I am not the only Asian in this area, a lot of Vietnamese that I mistakenly thought were Filipino and likewise. They smile at me and thought that I am a Vietnamese too. LOL! The Mardi Gras is really fun. Beads are price possession and those who got the most beads and those who had unique an stylish beads deserves a WOW! Unlucky, I have so many of the common kind. I have only few that are worth a treasure.

Mardi Gras in D'Iberville: The Anxious Crowd

I brought 3 coats with me because it is really cold but since we are facing the sun, it warms a little bit, i just have this one. Finally, my camera had a glimpse of me hahaha.

Some people were walking at the middle of the road looking for their relatives or looking for the right spot. My sis-in-law's family brought their own folding chair, food&drinks.
The front of where I was, not so crowded. You may ask why? Okay, if I have to choose( because I am Pinoy), I will choose a location that the sun would not see me. That area is a shady one and American's like the sun in fact, they wanted a tan skin. Pinoy otherwise, prefer the shady area, we even choose products that has whitening....LOL. That is the main reason why people are situated themselves facing the sun.
Anxiously waiting but other group of people at the back of where I was, they started barbecuing and story telling .... family gathering is really visible.
I love this crowd. Why? It reminds me of the Philippines. The crowd will gather almost at the middle of the road...LOL, just to be at the front line of the action. Guess, it is a human nature and it is not culture based, purely human. Anyway, these pictures tells a lot about the people living in this place. What did you noticed? I will sum it up for you. FAMILY. Yes, every time they have events to see or get involved with, their family is with them, plain and simple. Admirable quality right?
